What’s On the Horizon?

The Astrology

Jupiter in Sagittarius has completed its retrograde and is traveling direct again. Mercury has completed its transit of Cancer and has joined the Sun, Venus, and Mars in Leo. Venus is at the heart of the Sun (in the same degree as the Sun). The planets in Leo are still turned away from Saturn and the Moon in Capricorn, which you can read about in the previous post. The Leo planets are aware of Jupiter in Sagittarius.

One at a Time

A retrograde planet is restrained from fulfilling its normal functions. When Jupiter is retrograde, truth, the search for meaning and for justice, and expansion are limited in some ways. People often look for (review) what’s holding up progress. Although its forward momentum is still very slow, now that Jupiter is once again in direct motion, you can expect to feel and see growth and expansion as you and people around you expand horizons, reach new understanding, and find joy and relief in new beliefs.

Mercury in Cancer focused our attention—in particular, our thoughts and communications—around the need to create a secure home and nurture bonds with the people we care about. Family and home in all its many forms, including shelters and detention centers, were front and center. With Mercury’s entry into Leo, your thoughts may shift toward creative expression. You’ll think about ways you can express yourself. You might feel inspired to write, create art, create new friendships, even a new image/persona for yourself. What you want to create now may be connected to thoughts you had over the past 30 or so days.

Venus signifies your capacity to attract what you want to you. When Venus is at the heart of the Sun, its ability to attract is increased by the Sun. While Venus is generally considered a beneficial energy and is associated with abundance and resources, it can also attract more of what is not welcome or wanted. We live in an attraction-based Universe. What you think about is what will come to you. The ability to attract what you want is increased, but so is the likelihood of attracting what you don’t want increased.

A Reflection

The descriptions above caused me to think about foot binding, a form of body modification that started in the Sung Dynasty in China (960-1279) and was practiced by some even into the 20th Century. While foot binding was believed to be a passport to a better marriage and support for women, because both the men and women believed small feet were more attractive, foot binding was also a means of control. Footbound women sat still for long hours and performed valuable handwork. The practice was eventually banned, but it didn’t disappear until cheaper factory-made alternatives were more readily available.

While foot binding is an extreme practice and example, the same elements–beliefs that bind our minds and bodies, creative expression, resources, new beliefs vs. old ways of life, for example–iinfiltrate our lives today. We all have limiting beliefs about things. We limit and restrict ourselves. We want more. We want expansion.

  • Your beliefs, which are just thoughts that you think, may have limited your expansion and prevented normal growth. When you feel like you want to be more expansive and inclusive, you will feel inspired to create something new, which could be new beliefs about yourself and others, new ways of working, new policies, the possibilities are endless. We live in an abundant Universe.
  • You can attract what you want and need by focusing on what is wanted (not what is unwanted) and allowing yourself to move forward and expand your horizons. You can do it.

Forecast for August 5

Today’s Astrology

Moon in Libra forms easy connections to retrograde Jupiter in Sagittarius and retrograde Saturn in Capricorn. The Moon advances to square Mercury in Cancer, and Mercury has almost completed its opposition to Saturn in Capricorn.

The Vibe is “TUNING IN”

There are two distinctly different and influential energies this week. One you’ll experience as easy and positive thoughts and emotions. The other will be experienced as challenges and be based on negative thoughts and difficult emotions. The challenging, negative energy is slightly more prominent into Thursday. Beginning late Thursday and extending throughout next week and until August 14, the energy shifts and has an easier, upbeat tempo. So hang in there.

In the meantime, you get to decide what you will both transmit and tune in to. You are a receiver in every sense of the word as you see, hear, feel, and interpret information that’s being transmitted by others. You also use your mind and body to communicate (transmit) messages to others. Like any communication device, you have the ability to tune to a different frequency and receive whatever messages/communications are being broadcast.

Most people think and do things out of habit. We tend to set our tuners to a station or channel (a frequency) and leave it there. We therefore hear, see, and read the same things over and over and over. The same programs, same music. same news and commercials. We see the same people, think the same thoughts, and eat the same foods.

So if you tend to tune in to people and things (Facebook, opinion pieces, etc.) that broadcast the negative messaging that brings forth from you negative thoughts and feelings, that’s what will most likely dominate your life during the next several days (or longer if it’s your tendency).

If you prefer, instead, to have more positive than negative experiences this week, you can do so by steering clear of the negativity (people, places, things) in every possible way. You don’t have to watch the news or engage in conversations about things that will bring you down and leave you more vulnerable to the negative vibes/channels/thoughts.

Plan ahead. If you know you’re a target/receiver for negativity, plan strategies now that will help  you have more positive experiences in the upcoming days. Take it an hour at a time if you need to. Break up your routines. Distract yourself with new experiences. Do you tend to see the cup half full or half empty? Whatever you dominant tendency is will be in higher focus today.

Ask yourself often: If I know what I don’t want, what is it that I do want? Stay focused on what you do want.
